How to make roses last longer?

Roses in a vase usually last up to one week when in cold place. If they are especially precious gift you can preserve them even longer than one week with some practical advises. Lifetime of roses depends on how long they were without water, their species and health.

 

Use clean vase!

When get flowers for present always put it in perfectly clean vase. Dirty vases are full of bacteria that can contribute fast decay of roses. Bacteria will be easily removed if pout into vase a tea spoon of baking soda and vinegar. This mixture removes successfully dirtiness and stone. To clean the vase, follow up with next steps:

  1. Pour warm water into the vase and add one spoon of baking soda.

  2. Add one spoon of vinegar. The mixture will foam and remove deposit from inside the vase.

  3. Wash the vase using clean water and wipe it by clean cloth.

 

Cut rose`s stem

It is very important to change the water in the vase each second day to allow roses to stay fresh. Each time when you change the water cut the stems of the flower for one centimeter. Cut the stem under water and with tiny angle. In this way the capillary will not be blocked by small bulbs of air which can prevent the water and nutritive matters intake.

 

Remove leaves from stem

When put the roses in the vase pay attention to leaves that should not be under water. Leaves in the water will decay and secreted bacteria will speed up decline of the flowers. This simple trick can significantly prolong the lifetime of your roses.

 

Always keep roses in cold place

The best place for keeping alive a bouquet of roses is cold place in your office or home. High temperatures are not convenient because flowers will quickly decline. It is also good idea not to keep roses directly below air-condition.

 

Does Aspirin maintain flowers fresh?

Yes! If you crumble one tablet of Aspirin into the water in vase, your roses will stay fresh. Crumble one tablet of Aspirin using back side of spoon and pout this powder into the water. Salicylic acid from the Aspirin will keep the water clean and without bacteria.

 

Do roses stay fresh longer in refrigerator?

Yes! If you are prevented to give flowers immediately to your darling for any reason, than you can extend the lifetime for one day if keep the flowers in refrigerator, while respecting several simple steps:

  • Put the flowers into the vase filled with water up to 3/4,

  • Check temperature in the refrigerator. It should be lower than 4.4°C.

  • Take out all fruit from refrigerator. This is very important because fruit release gases that support growth of bacteria and can damage roses.
